Our gerbils, for some reason, decided to commit dual suicide or something. We've had them for a couple of months, they were siblings and raised together, they've been together the entire time they were at the pet store and at our home. They have gotten along fine...
Yesterday, we heard awful screeching sounds, so me and Brandon ran to see what was wrong with the gerbils. They were fighting like crazy, and I had no clue what to do. It only lasted a couple of minutes...one was dead right then and the other died about 15 minutes later.
They had two food bowls, lots of toys, two houses, they've been living peacefully, so I'm so confused why they would fight all of a sudden.
Of course, Brandon was having a fit. We ended up driving the hour up to Petsmart and getting them a hamster (only 1 this time - lol). So, we are now have a beautiful long, haired blonde hamster the boys named Boomer.
Hopefully it'll have a better fate than Tex and Rex, but it's no where near as sweet as they were. Boomer doesn't bite, but he tries to escape. Tex and Rex would let you hold them and not even care. Hopefully that'll get better with Boomer with time though.
Here's a couple of not so good pics of the little guy.

Wow, that was day! I'm really sorry about Tex and Rex. I hope the boys are holding up well.
Boomer will start to warm up to you all soon. I had hamsters when I was growing up...and my hamster killed my sister's hamster around year 2 of having them. Then, my hamster died a year
later...that was a really hard for me (Dad got me another one). My sister was fine about it all..she is almost 5 years older than me. Best of luck with Boomer.
1oh my gosh wynter! how horrible. i am sure there was a reason they did that. it most likely had to do something with the sex each of them were. that is so sad.
2He's cute.
3They were both supposed to be boys, but since they came from Petsmart, I'm sure they're not the world's expert on figuring out the sex of gerbils.
I just hate it happened...especially in front of Brandon. They were
such sweet little guys...
4awwww
5He is so cute!
6yeah, he is. He's messier than the gerbils though, lol He put all of his food in his wheel, dumped some of the bedding out of his cage, and he's chewing up his cardboard chewtoys and leaving them everywhere. I foresee an aquarium type cage in his future if he doesn't stop dumping stuff out in my floor.
7I bet bluejeanie would know why they killed each other. I'm sorry Brandon saw it.
8How cute. We had a similar incident with my daughter's hamster Squeaky. He escaped from his cage though and landed in a cup of water and died from the chills. Devastating my little girl. But we went out to Petsmart and got another, Joey. They are too cute.

Aw that's so sad! Boomer's a cutie!
10That is just really awful and weird. I can't believe they just turned on each other. Poor Brandon
At least the boys have Boomer now.
11that's terrible. I'd never heard anything like that. The new gerbil is so cute though!

Aww, how sad. And traumatic for your little guy to witness. I'm sorry.
13Aww I hate that that happened Wynter; especially since it happened in front of Brandon. We had a similar incident with mine and my brother's hamsters when we were growing up; likely neither one of us saw it happen and our parents just told us that they got loose and ran away.
